Tech men's golf finishes eighth at Golfweek NGI
Golden Eagles card best team round of weekend in finale

MARICOPA, Ariz. – Tennessee Tech finished its final event of the academic year as the men's golf team completed its run at the Golfweek National Golf Invitational with its best round of the weekend, shooting 7-under on Sunday to finish the event with a cumulative 13-under, finishing eighth at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.
Grand Canyon at 52-under for the tournament were the team champions, shooting 15-under to lead all teams on the day. Tech's 7-under on Sunday was the fourth-best tally on the final day.
Missouri (38-under), Rhode Island (27-under), Nevada (26-under) and Wyoming (25-under) were the tournament's top five.
Haden Maxwell finished the day with a 4-under to complete the tournament at 8-under and a tie for ninth overall. Maxwell had five birdies on the back nine to improve his score after a slight hitch on Nos. 5 and 6.
Matthew Shull, competing individually, carded a 3-under on Sunday to finish with a 6-over to end tied for 43rd. Shull had four birdies on the front and three on the back over to wipe out extra strokes on four holes.
Nick Etherton shot 2-under on Sunday, while Alex Broyles hit 1-under as both golfers ended the event with 2-under scores to finish in a tie for 27th. Etherton was on pace for a 4-under day until trouble hit on the 18th, while Broyles had three bogeys in the first five holes, but rebounded in a big way with birdies on Nos. 7, 13 and 14.
Bryson White hit even par on Sunday, finishing the tournament at a 47th-ranked 8-over, while Cooper Gettler finished with a 1-over to match his tournament tally for a tie for 37th.
Nixon Lauritzen (Grand Canyon) and Brody Leid (Wyoming) finished tied for first at 18-under with Lauritzen claiming the PGA Tour exemption berth with a win on the playoff hole on No. 18. Lauritzen parred the hole, while Leid bogeyed.
Nevada's Monte Chumchaivate (12-under), Grand Canyon's Gavin O'Neill (11-under) and Missouri's (10-under) completed the top five.
