Tech men's golf shoots 6-under at Golfweek NGI's second round
Golden Eagles have a better second day as tourney leaders increase advantage

MARICOPA, Ariz. – Tennessee Tech had a better day Saturday during the second round of the Golfweek National Golf Invitational, shooting a 6-under on the day, but the teams at the top took huge strides during the day.
The tournament concludes Sunday. Matthew Shull, playing as an individual, will tee off at 6:45 AM local, while Bryson White tees off at 7:25 AM, Cooper Gettler at 7:33 AM, Nick Etherton at 7:41 AM, Alex Broyles at 7:49 AM and Haden Maxwell at 7:57 AM.
Through two rounds, the Golden Eagles stand in eighth at 6-under for the event so far. Grand Canyon took the overall lead as it shot 20-under as a team to improve to 37-under through two rounds. Missouri shot an 11-under, but fell to second with its 29-under total. Rhode Island (28-under), William & Mary (22-under) and Wyoming (21-under) round out the current top five.
Maxwell (4-under after two rounds) shot a 4-under Saturday and currently stands in a tie for 21st. He had a great day on the front nine, carding birdies on five of the first nine holes. Broyles – 1-under after two rounds and tied for 29th – ended Saturday with a 1-under to improve a stroke on his first day tally.
Etherton (even par after two rounds) fell two strokes on Saturday from his Friday card with trouble on No. 16 to finish the day at 1-over after shooting 1-under in the opening round. Gettler (even par after the first two days) improved two strokes with a 1-under Saturday as both Etherton and Gettler are tied for 34th. Bryson White (8-over through two rounds) showed the biggest improvement, shaving eight strokes off his Friday performance to finish Saturday with a par score and a two-day 152 to stand in a tie for 46th.
Shull (9-over after two days) carded a 76 and is tied for 48th.
Brody Leid from Wyoming holds a three-stroke lead with a 14-under after two days. Grand Canyon's Nixon Lauritzen (11-under) is second, while Rhode Island's Josiah Tong (10-under), Grand Canyon's Gavin O'Neill (10-under), Nevada's Monte Chumchaivate (9-under) and Rhode Island's Tyler Bruneau (9-under) round out the top five.
