MARICOPA, Ariz. – The athletics calendar isn't done for Tennessee Tech in 2025-26 yet as the Golden Eagle men's golf team has one more opportunity to fly high this weekend as they travel westward to compete in the 2026 Golfweek National Golf Invitational.
The event, similar to the National Invitation Tournament in college basketball, takes place later this week at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, bringing 10 programs into direct competition in a 54-hole event. The first round is scheduled for Friday and will run through Sunday.
The Golden Eagles will field Haden Maxwell, Nick Etherton, Bryson White, Alex Broyles and Cooper Gettler..
The teams Tech will take on this weekend include Augusta (West Coast Conference), Grand Canyon (Mountain West Conference), Mercer (Southern Conference), Missouri (Southeastern Conference), Nevada (Mountain West Conference), North Alabama (Atlantic Sun Conference), Rhode Island (Atlantic 10 Conference), William & Mary (Coastal Athletic Association) and Wyoming (Mountain West Conference).
The course stretches across 320 acres of the Ak-Chin Indian Reservation and touts a scenic view of Arizona desert. It was ranked by Golf Magazine as the No. 5 "Best Course You Can Play in Arizona" and the 84th "Best Course You Can Play in the United States," as well as Golfweek's list of the "Top 100 Resort Courses."
The tournament will be a traditional college format with each team playing five players and counting the top four scores. Individual and team champions will be determined after 54 holes, with the individual champion earning an exemption to compete in the PGA's Butterfield Bermuda Championship at Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton, Bermuda, on Oct. 22-25.
