COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – After another strong showing this weekend at the Golfweek National Golf Invitational, Tennessee Tech senior Haden Maxwell secured his spot in the Golden Eagle golf record book as he ended the 2025-26 campaign with a 70.9 stroke average, the lowest in program history.
It's an incredible feat -- and one heck of a sendoff -- for the Soddy Daisy product, standing as one of the top athletic performances of the year.
That wasn't the only mark he's added to the record book as Maxwell also claimed the third-lowest career stroke average with a 72.94, joining illustrious company with Tech Sports Hall of Famer Scott Stallings (72.4) and Jackson Skeen (72.67).
Maxwell's 2025-26 campaign is nearly two-tenths of a stroke better than Stallings' best season with a 71.08 in 2005-06 and four-tenths better than Stallings in 2006-07. It's also a marked improvement from Maxwell's 73.08 last season.
"There really isn't an adequate way to describe Haden's season and his career, for that matter," said Tech men's head coach Polk Brown. "It's one of the best seasons in the history of our program. I have seen this young man come a long way since his freshman year, and to do what he has done over the course of his career has been simply remarkable.
"He has set an extremely high bar for what success looks like on this team and truly left a mark in Golden Eagle golf. But, more importantly, the man he has become as he enters the next stage of his life is even more impressive. He is the true embodiment of what Tennessee Tech Golf is all about. I couldn't be prouder of his accomplishments and the person he is. We were blessed to have him be a part of the program."
The season Maxwell was nothing short of phenomenal. He claimed medalist honors at UT Martin's Grover Page Classic in Memphis and the USC Upstate Carolina Cup, then finished second at Kennesaw State's The Scrappy at Cobblestone and the Xavier Invitational, as well as third-place finishes at the Austin Peay Intercollegiate and the Kentucky Bluegrass Invitational.
In all, he had nine Top 10 finishes in 12 events and six Top 3 finishes. He finished outside the Top 16 only one time.
To break it down even further: Maxwell had 23 rounds under par, 26 with par or better, 13 in the 60s out of 36 total rounds played, and nine rounds with a score of 68 or better. He only had five rounds over 74 – 13.9 percent of his total rounds played in 2025-26.
As the athletic calendar draws to a close, Maxwell's year will be one that will be remembered for a long time, adding his name among some of the greatest names in program history.
