Golden Eagles Soar to Second During First Day of Xavier Invitational

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Tennessee Tech men's golf shot 22 over during the first day of action to sit in second following the first two rounds of the Xavier Invitational at Maketewah CC in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The Golden Eagles sit in second place trailing only Xavier (-1), as Tech shot 10 over during the first round but bounced back with a two over in the second round to close the gap. St. John's is third (+33), IU Indy (+34) is fourth, and Morehead State is +37 to round out the Top 5.
Haden Maxwell continues his outstanding start to the season, sitting in second place at two under par after rounds of 73 (1st) and 65. (2nd). He made one eagle on seven and seven birdies overall to continue his impressive fall season. Maxwell matched his lowest round of the season (65) that he set in the Grover Page Classic in September.
Matthew Shull is seventh (+3) after shooting 68, matching his best round of the season so far both marking career-lows for the junior.
Cooper Gettler sits in 19th after rounds of 71 and 76 today. He made two birdies in the first round and is seven over through two rounds.
Alex Broyles (+8), competing as an individual, shot 73 in the second round with five total birdies in 36 holes today.
Nick Etherton (54th) shot an 81 to drop to 14 over after posting a 73 (+3) in the first round. He made four birdies today.

The Golden Eagles recorded the second-lowest average on Par 3s (3.23), Par 4s (4.28), and the lowest average on Par 5s (4.45) in the tournament.
Maxwell's eagle was one of eight made in the first two rounds of the event. Only Northern Kentucky had more than one eagle today with two.
Tech made 24 birdies as a team for the third-most, and sank the second-most pars (107) among the field.
