Golden Eagles Open Peoples Championship with Solid First Round
Tennessee Tech men’s golf team opened the Peoples Championship with a first-round score of 288 (+4) on Monday, placing the Golden Eagles tied for 14th after the opening 18 holes of the event.

St. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga.— Tennessee Tech men's golf team opened the Peoples Championship with a first-round score of 288 (+4) on Monday, placing the Golden Eagles tied for 14th after the opening 18 holes of the event.
Tennessee Tech was led by Haden Maxwell, who fired a 1-under-par 70 to pace the Golden Eagles. Maxwell's round placed him in a tie for 20th overall on the individual leaderboard after the first round.
Bryson White also delivered a strong performance for Tech, carding an even-par 71 to finish the day tied for 35th.
Matthew Shull followed with a 73 (+2) and sits tied for 56th heading into the second round.
Rounding out the Golden Eagles' scoring lineup, Nicklaus Etherton and Cooper Gettler each posted rounds of 74 (+3), placing both players tied for 71st after 18 holes.
Competing as an individual, Alex Broyles recorded a 75 (+4) and is tied for 85th overall.
Western Carolina and Belmont share the team lead after the first round at 7-under-par 277, with Samford one shot back in third place.
The Peoples Championship continues Tuesday with the final round.
