SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Tennessee Tech freshman men's golfer Bryson White set a new personal low with a 68 in Round 1 to tie for first after 27 holes in The Carolina Cup Sunday. The Golden Eagles sit in fourth after one and a half rounds today.
The competitors played 27 holes, 18 in Round 1, and nine holes of Round 2 prior to calling it a day at The Carolina Cup. Bryson White had his best round as a Golden Eagle, shooting 68 in Round 1. He is tied for first place entering Day 2 tomorrow. White is two under and will begin the second day of action on the back nine in the second round.
White, a Freshman from Clinton, Tennessee, competing as an individual, played a spotless Round 1 with four birdies and 14 pars to complete the first 18 holes at four-under-par (68). He was ahead of the pack for much of the action today, before faltering during the front nine of the second round with three bogeys in four holes to close the day. He managed just two birdies during the front nine of the second round before wrapping up.
Haden Maxwell was solid, shooting 71 in the first round with four birdies. A bogey and a double bogey spoiled the ending of the first 18 for Maxwell, and a bogey on 12 of the back nine of round two put him at even par for the day and tied for seventh.
Cooper Gettler ended the day tied for 13th at two over, one official round in the books with a 74. Alex Broyles is tied for 34th at seven over, Matthew Shull is tied for 41st at seven over, Nick Etherton is tied for 44th at eight over, and Spencer Stuke is tied for 44th at eight over.
