COOKEVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee Tech mounted multiple rallies and showed offensive resilience Wednesday evening, but an early deficit proved too much to overcome in a 10-7 setback to North Alabama at Quillen Field at Bush Stadium at the Averitt Express Baseball Complex.
The Golden Eagles (14-28, 3-12 OVC) battled throughout, trimming a five-run deficit and bringing the tying run into play late, highlighted by a strong middle-inning surge.
North Alabama struck early with a five-run second inning, capitalizing on timely hits and a pair of wild pitches to build a 5-0 advantage. Tech responded in the bottom half, getting on the board with an RBI single from Luke Bragga to cut into the lead.
The Lions added a run in the fourth, but the Golden Eagles answered with a three-run sixth inning. Bragga delivered again with an RBI double, while Landon Smelser and Jorsixt Jimenez each drove in runs to make it a 6-4 contest.
Tech's biggest swing came in the seventh inning when Cade Fuller launched a three-run home run to left-center, bringing the Golden Eagles within one at 8-7 and energizing the home crowd.
Despite the momentum, North Alabama responded with two insurance runs in the eighth and held Tech scoreless over the final two frames to secure the win.
Fuller paced the Golden Eagle offense with a 2-for-4 performance, three RBIs and a home run, while Jackson Rooker added three hits. Bragga contributed two hits and two RBIs, and Ty Denton reached base four times with a double and three walks.
On the mound, Braxton Lewis provided stability out of the bullpen, tossing 4.1 innings while allowing just one run and striking out three to keep Tech within striking distance.
Tennessee Tech drew 12 walks and put pressure on the Lions throughout the contest but stranded 14 runners on base in the loss.
