COOKEVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee Tech mounted a late push but came up just short Saturday afternoon, falling to Little Rock, 4-3, in Game 2 of an Ohio Valley Conference series at Quillen Field at Bush Stadium.
The Golden Eagles (9-14, 0-2 OVC) put the tying and winning runs on base in the bottom of the ninth inning, loading the bases with one out, but Little Rock escaped the jam to secure the victory.
Tech showed early energy, jumping in front in the first inning when Jorsixt Jimenez launched a two-run home run to give the Golden Eagles a 2-1 lead. Jimenez finished with two RBIs on the day, accounting for most of the Tech's offense.
Little Rock answered with single runs in the second and fourth innings to take a 3-2 lead, before Tech evened things in the sixth. Owen Lee came around to score on a wild pitch after reaching base, tying the contest at 3-3.
Starting pitcher Jaxson Pease delivered a steady outing, tossing 7.1 innings while allowing four runs on 10 hits with one strikeout, keeping the Golden Eagles within striking distance throughout the afternoon.
The Trojans regained the lead in the eighth inning on a solo home run, which proved to be the difference.
In the ninth, Tech threatened behind a leadoff single from Manny Garza and a double from Eddie Garza to put runners in scoring position. The Golden Eagles ultimately loaded the bases, but Little Rock reliever Tag Andrews recorded the final outs to halt the comeback bid.
