MARTIN, Tenn. - Tennessee Tech battled back but couldn't overcome an early deficit Saturday, falling to UT Martin, 8-4, in Ohio Valley Conference action at Skyhawk Field.
The Golden Eagles (11-24, 1-10 OVC) surrendered two runs in the opening frame and trailed throughout, despite showing flashes offensively behind key swings from the middle of the order.
UT Martin (18-16, 5-6 OVC) built its advantage with consistent pressure at the plate, totaling 15 hits on the afternoon while scoring in five different innings.
Tennessee Tech answered in the third inning when a bunt single by Jackson Rooker led to an unearned run, cutting into the early deficit. The Golden Eagles added two more unearned runs in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run double from Jorsixt Jimenez to make it a one-run game at the time.
Owen Lee provided the biggest swing of the day for Tech in the seventh inning, launching a solo home run to right field, his ninth of the season, to account for the team's final run. Lee has hit a home run in back-to-back games.
Rooker paced the Golden Eagles with a pair of hits, while Jimenez drove in two runs and Lee added an RBI with his home run.
On the mound, Jaxson Pease (4-4) took the loss after allowing five runs on 10 hits over 6.1 innings, while Reece McDuffie worked the final 1.2 frames in relief.
UT Martin regained control in the middle innings, using a three-run seventh inning—capped by a two-run homer—to create separation and seal the victory.
The Golden Eagles finished with four runs on five hits, but defensive miscues and missed opportunities proved costly, as three of Tech's runs came unearned.
