CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team sealed the deal on its non-conference campaign with a 5-1 victory over Austin Peay, Wednesday afternoon in Clarksville.
The Golden Eagles (12-7, 4-0 HL) have now won five in a row and eight of the last nine.
Tech once again claimed the doubles point before the purple and gold secured singles victories in four of the five completed contests.
"Solid win today over a close rival," Golden Eagle head coach Mark Klysner said. "Once again, we got off to a hot start in doubles and continued to play well. We had to rest a couple of guys in singles so credit to everyone for stepping up and playing up a spot and taking care of business. Now we get ready and prepare for Friday and Senior Day."
Tech captured wins in both finished doubles meetings thanks to an Oliver Dao and Christian Capuccini 6-3 nod over Vincent Lu and Glen Arnet in the No. 2 position and a Diego Munoz and Murilo Burckhardt 6-3 triumph against Bodi Van Galen and Lucas Ranciaro in the No. 3 spot.
The No. 1 battle of Alex Alvarez and Daivds Spaks against Rohan Loubser and Logan Tomovksi did not finish with the score knotted at 4-4.
Oliver Dao helped set the tone in singles play with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Rohan Loubser in the No. 1 get-together. The straight-set nod was one of three for the purple and gold.
Murilo Burckhardt earned a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Vincent Lu in the No. 3 showdown, while Linus Rohlin seized a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Lucas Ranciaro in the No. 6 duel.
Ricard Garavi Yepez won the only solo battle that needed three sets behind a 6-1, 3-6, 10-6 nod over Felip De La Hormaza in the No. 4 gathering.
The Govs (4-11) picked up their lone point on a Glen Arnet 6-1, 7-6 victory against Christian Capuccini in No. 5.
The No. 2 clash of Diego Munoz and Logan Tomovski did not finish. Munoz did win the first set, 7-5.
With non-conference play officially in the rearview mirror, Tech will jump back into Horizon League action with a Friday home match against Southern Indiana. The Golden Eagles can wrap up the South Division outright with a win. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT and admission to Tech Tennis Courts is free of charge.
