MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team was tripped up in the second match of the spring as the Golden Eagles dropped a 7-0 decision at Middle Tennessee Friday evening from the Adams Tennis Complex.
In the middle tilt of a busy three-match road swing to open the campaign, Tech (0-2) kickstarted the contest by dropping the doubles point with losses in both completed clashes. The Blue Raider tandem of Karim Al-Amin and Ondrej Horak carded a 6-2 victory over Linus Rohlin and Oliver Dao in the No. 1 spot, while the MTSU combo of Antoine Mayoral and Birtan Duran took down Diego Munoz and Murilo Burckhardt with a 6-2 decision in the No. 3 battle to claim the doubles point.
The No. 2 matchup pitting Davids Spaks and Alex Alvarez against Eric Crivei and Jonasz Dziopak did not finish.
Spaks did go on to claim a set in singles play after taking the opener, 6-0, against Birtan Duran in the No. 3 position, but Duran came back to win the second set, 6-3, and an abbreviated third set, 1-0 (10-7), to take the solo gathering.
The Blue Raiders (2-0) took the rest of the singles clashes in straight sets. Ondrej Horak knocked off Oliver Dao, 6-4, 6-3, in the No. 1 slot, while Karim Al-Amin earned a 6-2, 6-1 nod over Alex Alvarez in the No. 2 meeting.
Antoine Mayoral collected a 6-3, 6-2 win against David Munoz in the No. 4 get-together to go along with a Freddy Murray 6-1, 7-6 (12-10) triumph over Murilo Burckhardt in the No. 5 position and a Santiago Lora 6-1, 6-0 victory over Linus Rohlin in the No. 6 clash to complete the MTSU singles sweep.
Tech will wrap up its three-match, season-opening road swing on Sunday with a meeting at Alabama on the books. First serve from Tuscaloosa is slated for 4 p.m. CT.
