Tech tennis topped by Tide to close out three-match road trip
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team closed out its season-opening, three-match road swing with a 7-0 defeat at the University of Alabama.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team closed out its season-opening, three-match road swing with a 7-0 defeat at the University of Alabama.
Despite the loss, the Tech tandem of Davids Spaks and Alex Alvarez helped highlight the afternoon in Tuscaloosa with a 6-3 victory over the No. 12 doubles team in the nation in Andrii Zimnokh and Jacob Olar in the No. 1 position. The Tide (2-0) would go on to capture the other two tandem tangles to take the point behind a No. 66 Matic Kriznik and Vit Kalina 6-2 win over Oliver Dao and Linus Rohlin in the No. 2 battle and a Carlos Gimenez Perez and Brendan Loh 6-3 nod against Murilo Burckhardt and Diego Munoz in the No. 3 spot.
Alabama topped the Golden Eagles (0-3) in all six singles matchups with straight set victories in each of them. Andri Zimnokh notched a 6-4, 6-2 win over Oliver Dao in the No. 1 slot, while No. 27 Matic Kriznik earned a 6-2, 7-5 triumph against Alex Alvarez in the No. 2 meeting and Vit Kalina picked up a 6-2, 6-0 nod over Davids Spaks in the No. 3 gathering.
Jacob Olar was victorious with a 6-2, 6-3 decision against Diego Munoz in the No. 4 position to go along with a Rohan Hazratwala 6-4, 6-4 win over Murilo Burckhardt in the No. 5 clash. Gray Voelzke rounded out the Crimson Tide's stellar solo showing with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Ricard Garavi Yepez in the No. 6 get-together.
The Golden Eagles will now set their sights on the 2026 home opener with a Saturday, Jan. 31 match against UT Southern. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. CT and admission to Tech Tennis Courts is free of charge.
