NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team was upended in the 2026 spring opener as the Golden Eagles fell 7-0 to Vanderbilt in the first of a season-opening, three-match road swing.
A narrow defeat in doubles play unwrapped the proceedings, with Tech picking up a victory in the No. 2 position. The Golden Eagle duo of Murilo Burckhardt and Linus Rohlin notched a 7-6 (7-4) win over No. 42 Danil Panarin and Jack Satterfield, but the Commodores collected wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 spots to take the point and the early edge.
Pablo Martinez Gomez and Hoyoung Roh topped Davids Spaks and Alex Alvarez 6-3 in the No. 1 slot, while Nathan Cox and Hugo Coquelin earned a 6-3 victory against Oliver Dao and Diego Munoz Navia in the No. 3 get-together.
"I thought we came out great in doubles with good energy and great focus," Tech head coach Mark Klysner said. "We haven't been able to play much or work on pairings but the guys looked good for the first match. Shoutout to Murilo and Linus who beat the No. 42 ranked doubles team in the country. Singles was a tough go for us definitely in the first sets as it took a little time to get back into match mode and we looked better in the second sets. Vandy was just much more match tough and had been practicing for two weeks already so we were up against a great team and honestly one of their best teams I've seen in years."
Vanderbilt (2-0) went on to claim all six singles clashes, capturing each solo battle in straight sets. Pablo Gomez Martinez collected a 6-1, 6-4 win over Oliver Dao in the No. 1 meeting, while Hoyoung Roh took home a 6-0, 6-2 decision against Alex Alvarez in the No. 2 spot and Danil Panarin secured a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Diego Navia Munoz in the No. 3 matchup.
The Dores found similar success toward the bottom of the singles lineup behind a Jack Satterfield 6-2, 6-2 win against Davids Spaks in the No. 4 position to go along with a Nathan Cox 6-1, 6-1 nod against Christian Capuccini in the No. 5 gathering. Callum Markowitz rounded out the affair's solo action with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Murilo Burckhardt in the No. 6 duel.
Tech will continue its busy, season-opening road stretch with a Friday match at Middle Tennessee. First serve in Murfreesboro is slated for 5 p.m. CT.
