Golden Eagle softball closes out home slate with weekend series vs. UT Martin
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It’s a big weekend for the Tennessee Tech softball team as the Golden Eagles close out the home slate with a three-game set against UT Martin on Saturday and Sunday, but there’s a lot of work to do as the Tech squad looks to lock down its spot in the Ohio Valley Conference Softball Championships. On top of that, it’s also Senior Day for the Golden Eagles on Sunday, putting a lot of pride on the line as Tech squares off this weekend against UT Martin.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It's a big weekend for the Tennessee Tech softball team as the Golden Eagles close out the home slate with a three-game set against UT Martin on Saturday and Sunday, but there's a lot of work to do as the Tech squad looks to lock down its spot in the Ohio Valley Conference Softball Championships.
On top of that, it's also Senior Day for the Golden Eagles on Sunday, putting a lot of pride on the line as Tech squares off this weekend against UT Martin.
Saturday includes a doubleheader starting at 1 PM, while Sunday's Senior Day finale is penciled in for a Noon start.
The games will be streamed on ESPN+ (subscription required) with Dylan Vazzano on the call.
Sunday's honorees include Addison Abell, Ella Bishop, Sofia Carroll, Olivia Evans, Makayli Harris, Britney Phally, Kyleigh Pitzer, Bailee Stack and Brooklyn Stewart.
As for the conference standings, Tech currently holds on to fifth place in the OVC at 11-10, while next week's opponent – Southeast Missouri – is at 10-10, followed by Southern Indiana (10-11). Western Illinois presently holds the last spot in the field with six games remaining at 7-13, while Morehead State (6-15) and Tennessee State (2-19) are still in the mix.
Eastern Illinois (17-3), UT Martin (15-5), SIUE (13-8) and Lindenwood (12-9) currently stand in the top four spots.
As a team, the Skyhawks are hitting .286, pulling together 78 extra-base hits with 43 doubles, 15 triples and 20 home runs. Avary Makarewicz (.364) has driven in 42 runs with nine home runs, while Carly Ward leads the team in average with a .403 mark. UTM challenges on the basepaths with 87 stolen bases, led by Kennedy Brown with 21.
UTM has a staff ERA of 3.61, led by Sami Scholtz (5-4) with a 2.65 ERA and tied with Natalie Kreuziger (2.92 ERA, 6-4) for strikeouts with 58. Ashtyn Green (3.46 ERA) leads the team with an 8-4 record.
The Golden Eagles are batting .275 with 55 doubles, nine triples and 22 home run. Ashley Capelouto (.351) leads the team with 35 RBI and seven home runs, while Jailynn Paderez has a team-best average of .376.
In the circle, Tech has a staff ERA of 4.64, led by Addison Abell with a 3.89 and Faith Rush with a 3.92 – both with 3-3 records on the season. Emily York (4.86) has eight wins and a team-best 68 strikeouts.
