Tech Softball hosts Austin Peay Wednesday
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It’s been a little while since Tennessee Tech and Austin Peay were locking horns in the Ohio Valley Conference, but the two teams will see each other once again on Wednesday as the Golden Eagles host the Governors at Tech Softball Field. The game is set for a 3 PM first pitch and will be streamed on ESPN+ (subscription required) with Dylan Vazzano on the call.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It's been a little while since Tennessee Tech and Austin Peay were locking horns in the Ohio Valley Conference, but the two teams will see each other once again on Wednesday as the Golden Eagles host the Governors at Tech Softball Field.
The game is set for a 3 PM first pitch and will be streamed on ESPN+ (subscription required) with Dylan Vazzano on the call.
Austin Peay enters Wednesday's game with a 17-11 record. The Govs are 9-0 at home but are .500 on the road with a 5-5 mark. Last week, APSU fell 9-1 to No. 1-ranked Tennessee in a neutral site game in Columbia, then won the first game in a three-game series against fellow ex-OVC squad Eastern Kentucky. The Govs won 3-2, then fell 10-8 and 3-2 as the Colonels won the series.
As a team, Austin Peay is batting .298, driving in 159 runs and scoring 172 times. The team has 88 extra-base hits with 45 home runs. Brie Howard (.323) has the most home runs with 12 and RBI with 41. Katie Raper (.300) also has double-digit round-trippers with 10. Sammie Shelander leads the team with a .420 batting average, while Emilee Baker (.412) leads the Govs in hits (40) and runs scored (29).
In the circle, Austin Peay has a staff ERA of 3.85 with opponents hitting .286. Alanah Jones leads the staff with a 2.75 ERA along with an 11-5 record over 18 appearances and 12 starts, throwing 84 complete innings with 25 walks and 61 strikeouts. Cameron Grayson (4.73 ERA, 5-5) also has 12 starts with 25 walks and 17 strikeouts.
The Golden Eagles (6-17) had a great week last week with the offense exploding for 47 runs in four games as Tech defeated future conference foe ETSU 12-0 in five innings, then swept TSU 10-2 in six innings, 11-8 in eight innings and 14-1 in five innings.
Ashley Capelouto was named the OVC Player of the Week and the Tennessee Sports Writers Association's Softball Player of the Week after batting .538 with seven hits – four home runs, including two grand slams – and 13 RBI on the week. She is hitting .333 with a team-high 20 RBI and four home runs.
Emily York shared the OVC Pitcher of the Week honor after going 4-0 on the week with a 1.47 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP as she allowed three runs and five walks over 14 1/3 innings with 16 strikeouts.
As a team, Tech is batting .249, driving in 78 runs and scoring 90 times. The Golden Eagles have 41 extra-base hits with 29 doubles, five triples and seven home runs. Jailynn Paderez leads the team with a .345 batting average, while Olivia Evans has a team-best 11 stolen bases.
In the circle, Tech has a staff 5.24 ERA with opponents hitting .320.
