Tech Softball welcomes in Bellarmine Tuesday
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech softball team will get right back into the thick of the action on Tuesday as they host Bellarmine on Tuesday. COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech softball team will get right back into the thick of the action on Tuesday as they host Bellarmine on Tuesday.
The game is slated for a 4 PM start and will be streamed on ESPN+ (subscription required) with Noah McKay on the call. Admission is free to the public.
Bellarmine enters the midweek contest with a 10-30 record and is currently trying to find its way out of an 11-game losing streak with the last win coming on March 22 at Eastern Kentucky.
Since then, the Knights fell 3-1 at Kentucky and 5-3 at Evansville in midweek contests, then swept in Atlantic Sun action against North Alabama, Austin Peay and Central Arkansas. In the losing streak, the Knights have been outscored 118-19 – an average score of 10.7 to 1.7.
The Golden Eagles (14-24), meanwhile, have won two of their last seven games after winning nine straight conference contests, taking one game from Ohio Valley Conference foes Western Illinois and Southern Indiana. Tech won the opener against the Screaming Eagles 4-3, then fell 3-0 in the second half of Saturday's doubleheader, then 2-1 in the finale Sunday.
Bellarmine, on the season, is batting .261 as a team with 58 extra-base hits – 36 doubles, four triples and 18 home runs – driving in 120 RBI and scoring 132 runs.
Kendall Gaddie leads the team in average with a .318 clip and is tied with Tia Ice (.306) for the most hits with 34. Ice leads the team in RBI with 18, while Nicole Waters (.273) has driven in 17. Lele Bennett has the team's most home runs with five.
In the circle, Bennett is their workhorse, throwing 110 innings in 28 appearances with a 5.79 ERA and a 5-14 record, walking 40 and striking out 61. Makenzie Cowburn has also thrown 85 1/3 innings with a 4-11 record in 28 outings, walking 54 and striking out 57.
As a staff, the team's ERA is 6.87 with opponents hitting .348 against.
Tech, as a team, is hitting .273 with 78 extra-base hits – 50 doubles, nine triples and 19 home runs – with 152 RBI and 176 runs scored. The Golden Eagles have 51 stolen bases.
Jailynn Paderez leads the team in average with a .394 mark, posting 26 RBI and a team-best 41 hits. Ashley Capelouto (.366) leads the team in RBI with 33 and home runs with seven, while Olivia Evans (.293) has the most runs scored (29) and stolen bases (16).
In the circle, the Golden Eagles have a 4.64 ERA, walking 120 and striking out 140 with opponents hitting .308 against. Emily York (7-11, 5.03 ERA) has the most innings of work with 79 1/3, walking 20 and striking out 60. Addison Abell (3-2, 3.64 ERA) has seen 65 1/3 innings of work and Faith Rush (3-2, 3.91 ERA) 48 1/3.
Following the Tuesday midweek contest, the Golden Eagles will hit the road to take on Eastern Illinois for a three-game set before returning to Cookeville for the final four home games of the season next week against ETSU and UT Martin.
