Golden Eagle softball hosts Lindenwood Saturday and Sunday for three-game OVC set
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech had a good weekend last week against Tennessee State to even up its Ohio Valley Conference record. Now, the Golden Eagles will look to improve on their OVC standings this weekend as Lindenwood comes into Cookeville for a three-game series. Saturday’s doubleheader is scheduled for a 1 PM start, followed by a single game on Sunday also at 1 PM.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech had a good weekend last week against Tennessee State to even up its Ohio Valley Conference record. Now, the Golden Eagles will look to improve on their OVC standings this weekend as Lindenwood comes into Cookeville for a three-game series.
Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for a 1 PM start, followed by a single game on Sunday at noon. Admission for all games at Tech Softball Field is free to the public.
Lindenwood enters Saturday's twinbill with a 12-15 record, 2-4 in the OVC. The Lions took two of three against UT Martin in the conference-opening series, including two extra-inning victories. After a stunning 3-0 victory over Minnesota, Lindenwood then dropped all three games at Eastern Illinois, but it was a fight as EIU won the opener 12-11 in 14 innings, then fell 12-9 in the second game. Sunday's finale saw a 5-1 defeat to the Panthers.
The Lions had a midweek doubleheader on Wednesday at Bradley as Lindenwood was run-ruled 10-0 in five innings, then flipped the script, taking a run-rule win of their own as the Lions beat the Braves 9-1
Tech, meanwhile, enters the weekend with a 6-18 record, 3-3 in the OVC. SIUE swept the Golden Eagles in the first series – 3-1, 8-1 and 6-4. Tech then won four straight, run-ruling ETSU and Tennessee State twice with an extra-inning victory sandwiched in between.
The Golden Eagles saw Austin Peay jump out to a big lead early on Wednesday's midweek contest, but Tech battled back to make it close as the Governors held on 9-6.
As a team, Lindenwood is batting .294, collecting 52 extra-base hits, including 33 doubles, three triples and 15 home runs, with 130 RBI and 140 total runs scored. Tori Hatton (.322) leads the team in RBI with 27, while Anna Sanders has the top average at .345. Madisen Noll (.329) has come home to score the most with 19 runs scored, while Emily Geary has the most home runs with five.
As a pitching staff, the Lions have a 4.68 earned run average, allowing 122 earned runs out of 145 total. The battery has also struck out 127 and walked 103. Avery Wapp is the workhorse, appearing in 18 games and 55 1/3 innings, posting a 5-3 record and a team-best 3.67 earned run average with 29 earned runs allowed, 24 walks and 62 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting .266 against her.
Tech is batting .248 as a team, collecting 43 extra-base hits, including 30 doubles, five triples and eight home runs. Jailynn Paderez leads the team in average with a .344 clip, while Ashley Capelouto (.333) has been on a tear in the last five games, picking up all five of her home runs and 16 of her 23 RBI in that span. Capelouto also has the team's top total in runs scored with 14. Olivia Evans (.243) leads the team in stolen bases with 11.
In the circle, the staff has posted a 5.23 ERA, allowing 107 earned runs and 129 total with 86 walks and 101 strikeouts. Emily York (4.77 ERA) has the most wins with four as she went 4-0 against ETSU and TSU, while Addison Abell (3.79 ERA) has the top ERA on the staff across a team-most 15 appearances. York also leads the team with 40 strikeouts.
