Eastern Illinois takes doubleheader over Golden Eagles
CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois strung its bats together at just the right time as the host Panthers collected 22 total hits on Tennessee Tech Saturday to take both ends of the conference doubleheader, beating the Golden Eagles 7-3 in the opener and in a 6-0 shutout in the nightcap. Tech (15-26, 11-9 Ohio Valley Conference) picked up five hits in each game, but was held to three runs on the day as Jailynn Paderez, Ashley Capelouto and Ella Bishop collected the team’s RBI in the double-dip. No player had a multi-hit game in game one, while Abbee Klinefelter went 2-for-3 in game two for the lone multi-hit producer on the day.

Emily York went five innings in game one, allowing five runs – three earned – on 11 hits, walking two and striking out eight. Hannah Lange threw the final frame, allowing two runs on two hits, walking one and striking out one.
Karlie McKenzie earned the victory, allowing three runs on five hits, walking four and striking out eight over five innings. Bryanna French earned the save, going the final two innings as she yielded just three walks.
Lizzie Stiverson and Marybeth Dyson each collected three hits, while Peyton Dwigans drove in two.
The Panthers scored first as Alisha Frederick doubled hone Stiverson, then Abbi Hatton hit a sacrifice fly to center field to make it a 2-0 game in the first. Tech tied the game in the third inning as Paderez drove in Julie Martin on a grounder to second, then Capelouto doubled Sofia Carroll home with a hit to left.
EIU reclaimed the lead on a two-run error in right field, allowing Dyson and Sophia Olman to score. Tech got one of those runs back in the fifth with Bishop's RBI single to bring Skylar Gooden home.
Stiverson collected an RBI single to drive in Dyson in the fifth, then Dwigans had a two-run single to score Dyson and Olman.
In game two, Mo Hance and Viola Smith drove in two runs as Olman, Smith and Chloe Wamboldt each had two hits.
Addison Abell took the loss as she allowed five runs on six hits over 2 1/3 innings, then Faith Rush came in and pitched the final 3 2/3 frames with a run on three hits, walking two and striking out four.
Rylan Gick went the distance, allowing five hits, walking one and striking out seven.
EIU scored five of its six runs in the third inning. Smith led off with a solo home run, then, after Wambolts's single to right, Frederick eyed a single up the middle to drive her home. Olman doubled in Frederick, then Hance singled up the middle to bring Hatton and Olman across the plate.
Smith hit her second home run of the day in the fifth inning to complete the scoring.
The two teams will conclude the series Sunday at Noon.
