Capelouto named OVC Player, York OVC Co-Pitcher of the Week
BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – After a tremendous week, the Tennessee Tech softball team is reaping the rewards as Ashley Capelouto was named the Ohio Valley Conference’s Player of the Week, while pitcher Emily York was named the OVC Co-Pitcher of the Week on Monday. BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – After a tremendous week, the Tennessee Tech softball team is reaping the rewards as Ashley Capelouto was named the Ohio Valley Conference's Player of the Week, while pitcher Emily York was named the OVC Co-Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
The awards are nominated and voted on by the member institutions' softball communications contacts.
Capelouto, a sophomore from Huntington Beach, Calif., was a wrecking ball for the Golden Eagles as she batted .538 with seven total hits – four of which were home runs and two of those were grand slams. Against ETSU, Capelouto went 2-for-3 with six RBI, two home runs – with the first grand slam – and three runs scored.
In the opener against TSU, she was 1-for-2 with a two-run round-tripper and a bases-loaded walk for three RBI. She went 2-for-5 with two runs scored in game two. In the finale, Capelouto went 2-for-3 with her second grand slam of the week.
For the season, Capelouto is hitting .333 with a team-best 20 RBI and four home runs.
York, a junior from Normal, Ill., found a groove in the circle as she went 4-0 for the week, posting a 1.47 earned run average and a 1.19 WHIP as she allowed just three runs and five walks over 14 1/3 innings, striking out 16.
She pitched the final 2 2/3 innings against ETSU, holding the Bucs to one hit with two strikeouts. York worked 3 2/3 scoreless innings in the first game against Tennessee State, yielding three hits and one walk, while recording four strikeouts. She pitched the final three innings in game two – including the resumed suspension on Sunday – allowing two runs on three hits with a walk and five Ks, then threw the complete game on Sunday, allowing one run on five hits with five strikeouts.
The strong week brought York to 4-6 on the season with a 4.44 ERA, walking 15 and striking out 42 over 47 1/3 innings.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday as they host Austin Peay at 4 PM at Tech Softball Field. Admission is free.
