Golden Eagle softball moves up home OVC-opening series vs. SIUE to Friday/Saturday
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech softball team will get to open both the home slate and the Ohio Valley Conference schedule a day early as the potential for severe weather has prompted the team to move up the scheduled games against SIUE. The doubleheader will now be played at 1 PM Friday with the second game following at approximately 30-45 minutes after the first’s conclusion. The series will wrap up Saturday with a single game, starting at 9 AM. All games at Tech Softball Field are free admission to the public.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech softball team will get to open both the home slate and the Ohio Valley Conference schedule a day early as the potential for severe weather has prompted the team to move up the scheduled games against SIUE.
The doubleheader will now be played at 1 PM Friday with the second game following at approximately 30-45 minutes after the first's conclusion. The series will wrap up Saturday with a single game, starting at 9 AM.
All games at Tech Softball Field are free admission to the public.

This weekend's schedule Little League Weekend promotion will be postponed to a later date, while the team will continue to honor its Cancer Awareness Weekend as scheduled.
Both teams will be looking forward to starting OVC play, as will be the majority of the conference, as UT Martin remains the only league team with a winning record entering OVC play this weekend.
SIUE (7-12) comes into Cookeville on a two-game losing skid after going 1-3 last weekend in the Eastern Kentucky Colonel Classic. The Cougars dropped a 10-0, six-inning run-rule contest to Pitt, beat Saint Louis 8-3, while falling 4-1 to Bradley and 3-0 to the host Colonels – who the Golden Eagles run-ruled 9-0 on Feb. 21.
As a team, SIUE is hitting .225 with 44 RBI, 54 runs scored and three home runs. Raegan Duncan leads the Cougars in average with a .306 clip, while scoring seven times and driving in seven. She is tied with Abby Harvell (.294) for the most hits with 15, while Harvell has driven in four and come home eight times.
Kaylin Fahy (.216) leads SIUE in RBI with eight and seven runs scored.
In the circle, the Cougars have a 5.13 earned run average, allowing 83 earned runs and 103 total over 113 1/3 innings with 30 walks and 70 strikeouts, with opponents hitting .314. Mia Volpert (3.38, 4-4) has seen the most action with 12 appearances and nine starts, allowing 23 earned runs and 30 total, walking 10 and striking out 18. Avery Arwood (1-2, 4.14 ERA) has the most strikeouts on the staff, setting down 26.
The Golden Eagles (2-14) had a tough weekend last week, going 0-for-5 at the UNF-JU Classic in Jacksonville, Fla., losing three times to North Florida and twice to Jacksonville.
As a team, Tech is hitting .204 with 31 RBI, 37 runs scored and two home runs. Jailynn Paderez (.361) leads the team in average with a .361 mark with five RBI and three runs scored, while also leading the team in hits (13) and walks (12). Ashley Capelouto (.275) has six doubles, six RBI and five runs scores, while Ella Grace Harvey and Sofia Carroll have the team's round-trippers to date.
In the circle, the Golden Eagles have a staff 5.75 earned run average with 75 earned runs and 92 total over 91 1/3 innings of work. Tech has walked 59 and struck out 58. Opponents are hitting .331 against.
Addison Abell (1-1, 4.09 ERA) currently leads the staff in 10 appearances and four starts across 25 2/3 innings, walking 10 and striking out six with 15 earned runs and 19 total runs. Lainey Fitzgerald (1-6, 6.20 ERA) leads the team in strikeouts with 23, while Emily York (0-6. 5.77 ERA) has 21 with a team-fewest nine walks allowed.
Following the home-opening series, the Golden Eagles return to the road for a mid-week game at ETSU on Tuesday before traveling to Tennessee State for a three-game series next Saturday and Sunday.
