COOKEVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee Tech University Director of Athletics Casey Fox today announces the hiring of Tobin Anderson as the new Head Coach of the Golden Eagle men's basketball program.
Anderson brings nearly three decades of collegiate coaching experience and, most recently, served as a special assistant to the head coach at the University of South Florida during the 2025-26 season.
"Tobin Anderson has a proven track record of building successful programs, developing student-athletes, and leading teams to championships," Director of Athletics Casey Fox said. "His winning experience and passion for the game make him an outstanding fit to lead our men's basketball program. We are excited to welcome Coach Anderson and his family to Tennessee Tech."
Anderson gained national recognition during the 2023 season while serving as head coach at Fairleigh Dickinson. In his first season leading the Knights, Anderson guided the program to one of the most memorable moments in NCAA Tournament history as No. 16-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson defeated No. 1 seed Purdue in the opening round — just the second time a No. 16 seed had ever defeated a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The year before Anderson's arrival, FDU had finished just 4-22. The 17-win improvement is tied for the greatest single-season turnaround in NCAA Division I men's basketball history.
Following that season, Anderson became head coach at Iona University, where he led the Gaels from 2023 to 2025. Before his time at the Division I level, Anderson built one of the nation's most successful Division II programs at St. Thomas Aquinas College from 2013-22, compiling a 209-62 record and leading the Spartans to multiple conference championships and seven consecutive NCAA Division II Tournament appearances. His Spartans qualified for the NCAA Division II Tournament in seven consecutive seasons, including a trip to the Elite Eight in 2017.
"I am incredibly honored to be named the Head Coach at Tennessee Tech," Coach Anderson said. "This is a program with a proud tradition and passionate supporters. My family and I are excited to join the Cookeville community and begin building a program that Golden Eagle fans will be proud of."
Earlier in his career, Anderson served as an assistant coach at Siena College from 2011-13 after spending seven seasons as head coach at Hamilton College from 2004-11. He also served as head coach at Clarkson University from 1999 to 2004 after beginning his coaching career there as an assistant during the 1996-97 season. Anderson later worked as an assistant coach at Le Moyne College from 1997 to 1999.
Throughout his career, Anderson has been recognized as one of the top coaches in college basketball. He was named the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Division II Coach of the Year five times (2015, 2016, 2017, 2021, and 2022) while also earning East Coast Conference (ECC) Coach of the Year honors in 2015, 2016, 2021, and 2022. In 2023, he was named the MBWA Division I Coach of the Year following Fairleigh Dickinson's historic NCAA Tournament victory.
Anderson began his coaching career as an assistant at Clarkson and Le Moyne College. He graduated from Wesleyan University in 1995, where he was a four-year starter and two-year captain, and earned his master's degree in athletic administration from Florida State University in 1996.
Anderson, a native of Truro, Iowa, and his wife, Jodi, are the proud parents of Bryce and Alexa.
