Golden Eagles fall 89-68 at Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Tennessee Tech men's basketball falls 89-68 at Lindenwood on Thursday night in St. Charles, Missouri.
The Golden Eagles slip to 7-13 overall and 2-7 in OVC play with the loss. Lindenwood improves to 12-8 overall and 6-3 in conference play with the win. JaJuan Nicholls led the team in scoring, with 15 points on 4-of-11 shooting (36.4%) and 7-of-8 from the line. Grant Slatten finished second on the squad with 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting, including 2-of-2 from three off the bench. Brandon Muntu was third on the team with 10 points on 3-of-8 FG.
Tech was outshot 56.7 percent to 35.0 percent from the field as a group. Both teams attempted 60 field goals, but TTU made just 21 while LWU made 34. LWU made 5-of-20 from three, while TTU made 4-of-14 from three. The Golden Eagles attempted 30 free throws and made 22 of them, shooting 73.3 percent from the line for the game.
Nicholls has scored in double figures in two of the last three games, with 16 points against Southern Indiana (1/15) and 15 points tonight. His growth from the free-throw line was on display tonight, making a career-high seven free throws. Nicholls has made 13 of his last 19 from the line over the last three games. He has led the Golden Eagles in scoring in three of the last seven games dating back to Dec. 30.
Slatten posted his first double-digit scoring game with a season-high 11 off the bench. He shot 80 percent from the field, making 4-of-5 over a season-high 28 minutes.
Muntu got back in double digits with 10 points for the first time in five games, with his last double-digit scoring effort taking place on Jan. 1 at Little Rock (15 points). He made 3-of-8 from the field, 1-of-4 from three, and 3-of-3 from the line while grabbing four rebounds.
The game opened with a 9-0 run from Lindenwood, and the Golden Eagles got their first points on two made free throws by Mekhi Cameron, who finished with eight points on 2-of-8 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
Mekhi Turner and C.J. McPherson recorded seven points apiece. Turner made his third straight start and shot 42.9 percent from the field (3-7) and 1-of-3 from the line (33.3). McPherson made 2-of-3 from the field, 1-of-1 from three, and 2-of-2 from the line to finish with those seven points off the bench.
Lindenwood extended its first-half lead to 25-13 with just over 10 minutes left to go in the first half and would pull away to a 21-point advantage at the break, 47-26.
In the second half, the Lions and Golden Eagles traded baskets to the tune of a 42-42 half, allowing LWU to pull away to an 89-68 victory.
Ty Owens added five points, Jacobe Whitted posted three points, and Ja'Quavian Florence put up two points.

The Golden Eagles travel to SIUE for a matchup with the Cougars on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 4 p.m. CT. The Cougars are 12-8 overall and 5-4 in OVC, including winning two in a row with a 74-66 victory over Tennessee State on Thursday night.
