Tennessee Tech Welcomes Virginia University of Lynchburg for Home Opener

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech men's basketball welcomes Virginia University of Lynchburg to Eblen Center on Monday, Nov. 10, for its home opener at 6 p.m. CT.
The Golden Eagles (0-2, 0-0) began the season with two straight road games at Western Kentucky (L, 82-70) and Charlotte (L, 70-65) and dropped both contests. In the first two games of the season, Tech has battled back to cut the deficits to single digits but has been unable to complete the comebacks. Tomorrow night against Virginia Lynchburg marks the first of three straight home games for Tech.

Mekhi Cameron leads the Golden Eagles in scoring, averaging 14.5 points per game on 66.7 shooting from the field. Cameron has scored in double digits in two straight games to start the year. He scored 13 at WKU on 4-of-10 from the field and notched 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting at Charlotte.
Ja'Quavian Florence had a solid game against Charlotte (17 pts), raising his average to 10.5 points per game, which is second on the team. Brandon Muntu averages 10.0 points per game, which is third on the team.
Florence had big plays against Charlotte that helped the Golden Eagles close the deficit from 18 to three in the final minutes of the game. He shot 7-of-11 from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. The 17 points marked a season high for Florence after scoring just four at Western Kentucky in the season opener.
Muntu scored 13 at Western Kentucky and seven at Charlotte to open the season. He has shot 47.1 percent (8-17) from the floor over 52 minutes through two games. Muntu is averaging 5.5 rebounds per game, which leads the team.
Ty Owens leads the team in assists with 3.5 helpers per game (7 total), while averaging 4.5 points per contest. Jacobe Whitted is second on the team with 4.0 rebounds per contest, grabbing eight rebounds so far this season.
As a team, Tech has shot 47.2 percent (51-108) from the field but has struggled at the free-throw line, making 48.6 percent (18-37).

Tech opens its home schedule at 6 p.m. against Virginia Lynchburg in the first of three straight games at Eblen Center. TTU hosts Berea on Thursday, Nov. 13, and West Georgia on Monday, Nov. 17, to close out the homestand before heading to USC Upstate on Nov. 19.
