Golden Eagles roll to 86-64 win over Berea Thursday Night at Eblen Center

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles (2-2) rolled to an 86-64 win over Berea (1-1) on Thursday night at Eblen Center.
Tech improved to 2-2 with the win and has taken two straight at home with victories of Virginia Lynchburg (118-58) and Berea (86-64) in the past five days. Mekhi Cameron was one of five Golden Eagles in double figures, leading the team with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field, 5 of those six shots from three-point range. Cameron continues to light up the scoreboard with double-digit scoring in four straight games to begin the season, including a season-high 17 pts tonight (13 vs. WKU, 16 vs. Charlotte, 13 vs. VUL).
JaJuan Nicholls was second on the team with 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting and third on the team in rebounds with six. C.J. McPherson was raining three-balls all game, shooting 4-of-10 from long distance for 12 points in 24 minutes played.
Dani Pounds added 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting, including a plethora of thunderous dunks, to help Tech set the tone. Pounds was one rebound shy of a double-double, finishing with nine boards to lead the team. Brandon Muntu finished with 10 points on 3-of-9 from the field, 2-of-8 from beyond the arc.

The Golden Eagles scored two points above their points per game average with 86 points (84.3 per game) on 44.4 percent from the field (28-63). The home team outrebounded Berea 42-34 and had 24 points from the bench alongside 26 points in the paint, and 23 points off 19 turnovers.
As a team, Tech shot 15-42 from beyond the arc (35.7%) for the game. The Golden Eagles made 17-of-21 free-throw attempts (15-21). TTU made 11 steals and held Berea to 37.7 percent from the field (23-61), including 9-28 (32.1%) from three-point land.
Tech withstood a second-half run by Berea when the Mountaineers outscored the Golden Eagles 40-39 and put up a run in the second 20 minutes to challenge the home team.
Ultimately, the 23-point lead at the half was too much for Berea to overcome. Tech flexed its bench and got points from Hagan Preston (3 pts), Mekhi Turner (2 pts), Ja'Quavian Florence (5 pts), Jacobe Whitted (8 pts, 7 reb), and Jah'kim Payne (5 pts) to show the depth of the talented roster in the 22-point win.
