Eastern Illinois, UT Martin top Tech Beach in OVC Play Day
CHATTANOOGA – Tennessee Tech battled on the second day of the Ohio Valley Conference Play Day weekend at Chattanooga, but couldn’t get the upper hand as the Golden Eagles dropped 5-0 decisions to both Eastern Illinois and UT Martin. Tech (2-17, 0-6 OVC) returns to action on Friday and Saturday as the Golden Eagles compete at the APSU Classic in Clarksville.

CHATTANOOGA – Tennessee Tech battled on the second day of the Ohio Valley Conference Play Day weekend at Chattanooga, but couldn't get the upper hand as the Golden Eagles dropped 5-0 decisions to both Eastern Illinois and UT Martin.
Tech (2-17, 0-6 OVC) returns to action on Friday and Saturday as the Golden Eagles compete at the APSU Classic in Clarksville.
Kaesha Walter and Jordyn Hamlin, as well as the duo of Piper Jones and Kyana Gabriel, took their matchups into the third set. Walter and Hamlin fell to Lilli Amettis and Sylvia Hasz at the No. 2-spot 21-15, 16-21 and 15-11, while Jones and Gabriel in the No. 4 position won the first set 21-14 before falling 21-19 and 16-14 in the second two.
Laura Paniagua and Giorgia Cappelletti won the No. 1 match against MK Roberts and Vivian RoBards 21-16 and 21-15, while Tori Mohesky and Emma Schroeder topped Bailey Poppe and Cristina Rotola at No. 3 24-22 and 21-14.
Ariadna Pereles and Alanys Nieves defeated Audrey Kilgore and Alanah Craig 21-13 and 21-9 at the No. 5 spot. Kyla Coolman and Jorah Rutter tied Maggie Kamp and Jolee McLain in the exhibition match with Kamp and McLain winning the first set 21-18 before falling 21-14.
Against UT Martin, Kilgore and Craig took a second-set win to force the tiebreaker at No. 5 against Kristin Phillips and Bella Heyne but the Skyhawk duo won the tiebreaker 15-13.
The Skyhawks were a buzzsaw in the opening set for the 1 through 4 setups, keeping the Golden Eagles to single digits. Riley Rushing and Kayla Bryant beat Roberts and Kamp 21-9 and 21-17, while Dylan Sulcer and Reagan McGee defeated Walter and Hamlin 21-5 and 21-7.
Lauren Mariscal and Luli Arcucci won over Poppe and Rotola 21-9 and 21-12, with Amara Traiger and Andie Kryak beating Jones and Gabriel 21-8 and 21-11.
MC Rehm and Carly Mueller won in the exhibition contest against Zoe Mish and McLain 21-10 and 21-14.
