JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – It's a new start for the Tennessee Tech beach volleyball team as they hit the sand for the first time on Friday with the Golden Eagles heading to Carson-Newman for a doubleheader.
First serve is set for 11 AM Central.
The Golden Eagles enter the dual match with an entirely new lineup, bringing back just MK Roberts from last season's squad. She was named Tech's Player to Watch when the Ohio Valley Conference presented its preseason teams last week. The graduate from Dalton, Ga., went 9-14 last season in the No. 3-spot with Aleeya Jones and Jordan Karlen, winning six of her last seven pairings.
Host Carson-Newman has already got five matches under its belt, winning all of them – two on the road and three at neutral sites. The Eagles defeated Huntingdon 3-0, Mobile 3-1 and Florida Memorial 3-0 on Valentine's Day.
C-N then swept a twin set at Berry College, winning 4-1 in both matches.
Morgan Foy leads the Eagles with a 5-0 record, going 3-0 at No. 4 with Lucy Bartee (4-1) and 2-0 at No. 5 with Madison Trondle (3-0). Trinity Hafey and Paige Halcrow at the No. 1-spot has a 2-0 record.
Following Friday's double-dip at Carson-Newman, the Golden Eagles will head to Mount Berry, Ga., next weekend to compete in the Berry Beach Kickoff with two matches against host Berry College and a single match against LaGrange.
