COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – When Tennessee Tech traveled to Little Rock to begin the 2026 portion of the schedule, things were looking up for the Golden Eagles.
Tech was heading to the conference's Western boundary with a 10-2 record following a 6-0 December and things were looking bright. Thirty-one days later and it's been a tough ride as the Trojans won 51-44 on New Year's Day.
Since then, it's been seven straight losses with an average margin of 6.3 points with two one-point losses, a two-point loss and a five-point loss with a game that went to overtime.
As frustrating as the past month has been, the Golden Eagles have been close and still stand in position to make a run toward the postseason.
It almost seems fitting that January began with Little Rock and ends with the Trojans on Saturday as the Tech women look to get back in the win column.
Saturday's game tips off at 1 PM. Dylan Vazzano and Steve Smith will handle the call on ESPN+ (subscription required), Noah McKay and Frank Harrell on 106.1 The Eagle, while Josh Scott, Mindy Odom and Casey Bouldin will narrate the action locally on WCTE.
Little Rock comes in with a 10-10 record overall and 6-4 in league play after beating Tennessee State Thursday night 60-54. The Trojans saw their game against UT Martin last Saturday postponed to this upcoming Tuesday and Little Rock have won two of its last five games.
Tech, however, has lost its last seven games. It's the longest stretch since Tech lost 11 straight in 2014-15 and 2007-08. But these games have also been close games with only two of the seven contests -- Western Illinois and Lindenwood -- being decided by double-digits.
The Golden Eagles certainly still have fight in them. While Tech will face four games over the next eight days – Saturday against Little Rock, Monday at Tennessee State, Thursday against Western Illinois and next Saturday against Eastern Illinois – it's a prime opportunity to climb back up in the standings.
Western Illinois currently leads the way at 9-2, while Lindenwood, Southern Indiana and Morehead State are all tied at 8-3. UT Martin (7-3), Little Rock (6-4) and Tech (3-7) would currently be in the tournament field if the season ended today, while SIUE and Southeast Missouri both stand at 3-8 and Tennessee State and Eastern Illinois at 2-9.
When the two teams met up almost a month ago, it was a back-and-forth battle with the Golden Eagles taking a 27-24 halftime lead. However, Little Rock surged in the third quarter as Tech was held to just five points in the period. In the final quarter, the Trojans outscored Tech 13-12 to hold on 51-44.
Reagan Hurst scored 16 points in the previous meeting, while Jordan Holman had 20 points and 11 rebounds and Destinee Salgado had 13 points and 12 rebounds.
As a team, Little Rock is averaging 58.8 points on offense and 59.9 on defense, while shooting .359 from the field, .267 from 3-point range and .726 at the free-throw line. They average 4.3 3-pointers and 11.9 free-throws made per game.
Holman is the team's only double-digit scorer, averaging 17.3 points, as Mya Cotto (7.8), Brenna Burk (7.7), Destinee Salgado (7.0), Rakiya Nelson (7.0) are all over seven points a game. Holman also leads the team in rebounds at 6.1 boards a game, 50 assists. Alaina Payne leads the team with 50 assists.
Tech, meanwhile, is averaging 67.0 points a game on offense and 63.4 on defense. The Golden Eagles are shooting .377 from the field, .333 from 3-point range and .703 from the free-throw line.
Reghan Grimes is averaging 14.1 points, while Chloe Larry is at 13.1 and Reagan Hurst 12.3. LaReesha Cawthorn leads the team in rebounds with 9.6 per game, 36 steals and 24 blocks. Grimes also leads the team with 51 assists.
