BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech freshman LaReesha Cawthorn continues to make her case as one of the top freshmen in the Ohio Valley Conference as the standout collected her fourth OVC Freshman of the Week honor of the season on Tuesday.
It is her fifth OVC honor of the season, joining a Player of the Week nod on Nov. 18, as well as Freshman of the Week honors on Nov. 18, Dec. 9, Jan. 20 and Feb. 3. It is the seventh conference regular-season honor for the team this season.
The awards are nominated and voted on by the league's athletic communications contacts.
While she shared this week's honor with UT Martin's Sidni Middleton, who averaged 9.5 points and 4.0 rebounds as the Skyhawks went 1-1 on the week with a 7-for-7 performance at the line for the week, Cawthorn collected a double-double in Tech's lone game of the week after the weather postponed the Golden Eagles' scheduled game against Tennessee State to Feb. 2.
Against Little Rock, the Franklin, Ky., product scored 10 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, while she also had an assist, a steal and a block.
For the season, Cawthorn is averaging 8.6 points and a team-best 9.4 rebounds following Monday's victory at Tennessee State, while she holds the team lead in blocks with 25 and steals with 32. She had 11 points, six rebounds and two steals against the Lady Tigers, which will be added to her games this week against Western Illinois and Eastern Illinois for next week's consideration.
