Former players invited to annual Football Alumni Golf Classic, July 11
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Former Tennessee Tech football players are
invited to gather on Saturday, July 11, for the team's annual
Alumni Golf Classic at the Cookeville Golf Club.
Prior to the golf outing, the public is invited to join the
festivities with a Friday night BBQ dinner.
Golden Eagle All-American runningback Larry Schreiber heads up the
golf event, and is encouraging all former players to return for the
day's activities.
"The past two tournaments have been the largest and best ever, and
we're hoping to top that once again this year," said Schreiber.
"This event just keeps growing and growing.
“For many former players, this might be their first
opportunity to meet head coach Watson Brown and his staff,"
Schreiber said. “For a lot of them it’s a chance to
come back and reminisce about the ‘good old days’
whether it’s five years ago or 35 years ago. I'm sure we'll
get around to discussing who was the greatest player in Tech
history, and there will no doubt be plenty of tall tales and
outright lies told. Most importantly, it’s a chance for
returning players to support the football program."
For alumni who can get to town early, former player Ottis Phillips
and former defensive coordinator Tony Stone are teaming up to host
a separate event to benefit the football program.
Miller Lite and Stone Steel will host a Friday evening dinner from
6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Cookeville Golf Club. Registration begins at
6 p.m. The dinner will feature some of the South’s best
barbecue as Stone will cook up the night's legendary feast.
The Friday night dinner is open to the public. Tickets for the
Friday night dinner are $20 each and can be purchased in advance
(online at TTUsports.com) or at the Cookeville Golf Club the day of
the event. All proceeds from the dinner will directly benefit the
Golden Eagle football program.
Pre-registration for the golf tournament is available either
in-person at the football office, by phone (931-372-3930), or
online at TTUsports.com. Registration at the golf event will begin
at 10 a.m., and the four-man scramble format tournament will get
underway at noon with a shotgun start.
The pre-registration cost of the event is $85 per person, while
registration the day of the event is $100 per person. All proceeds
from the tournament go to the Tennessee Tech football program and
the Robert Hill Johnson endowment.
For information or registration, call the football office at (931)
