COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Are you ready for a cliffhanger? If the
recent history in this series holds true, Saturday's game between
Tennessee Tech and Southeast Missouri will go down to the final
seconds.
The Golden Eagles (3-3/2-2 OVC) host the Southeast Missouri
Redhawks (1-5/0-4 OVC) Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Tucker Stadium.
Tickets are available online, at the Athletics Ticket Office in
Eblen Center or by calling (931) 372-3940.
A year ago Tech held on for a 29-27 victory on national television
in a game in Cape Girardeau. Three years ago, Lee Sweeney set the
school passing record in leading Tech to a thrilling 32-29
come-from-behind victory, also on SEMO’s home turf. Before
that, it was a 31-24 Tech victory and the year before that, the
Redhawks won by a field goal in overtime.
The Golden Eagles hold a 10-7 edge in the all-time series, but very
few games have been by large margins. In fact, 10 of the 17 games
have been decided by a touchdown or less, including each of the
last six games.
The Golden Eagles host three of their final five games in Tucker
Stadium as they look to return to the win column following a tough
23-15 loss at Eastern Illinois last weekend.
SEMO, meanwhile, had a week off to prepare for this game and the
Redhawks are pointing at this contest as a chance to turn around
the season after losing five consecutive games.
It’s the first visit to Cookeville for SEMO head coach Tony
Samuel, who is 0-2 against the Golden Eagles with both contests
coming in Houck Stadium.
Prior to the game, Tech pays tribute to Academic Excellence, with
area Honor students on the field joining members of Tech’s
Spring Semester Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.
