A look at Tennessee Tech
The Golden Eagles (0-6-5, 0-0-1 OVC) enter their first road OVC affair on the heels of a 1-1 draw with Little Rock in the conference opener Sunday in Cookeville. The knot saw the Trojans score with only 32 seconds left in regulation to escape Tech Soccer Field with a tie.
Tech's goal came courtesy of a Katie Toney score in the 41st minute for the senior forward's first goal of the year and 17th of her career to move into a four-way tie for fifth place on the program's all-time career goals list. Toney is now deadlocked with Bailey Taylor (2019-23), Andrea Meloff (2009-12) and Robin Vince (2001-02) with those 17 scores.
Lucia Cuadra assisted on the Toney goal for her first helper of the year. The Barcelona, Spain native led conference last season with nine assists en route to an All-OVC first-team campaign. Cuadra joins Tori Soutuyo, Natalie Howard, Melina Hamm, Claire Palya and Cheyenne McCloud as Golden Eagles with assists this year, while Toney, Soutuyo, Howard, Ebba Melin and Allison all have goals this season. Howard still leads the squad with two goals and five points.
Senior keeper Maggie Conrad is coming off a three-save showing in the 1-1 knot with Little Rock. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa product is second in program history in both career victories and career shutouts.
Dating back to Oct. 2021, Tech has lost only three of 33 OVC contests. The Golden Eagles boast a 21-3-9 league record during that span.
A look at SIUE
The Cougars welcome Tech to town for the club's OVC home opener following a 2-0 defeat at EIU to being conference play on Sunday. The loss to the Panthers marked SIUE's eighth-consecutive defeat after starting the season 1-0-1 with a 2-1 win at IU Indy and a 2-2 draw at Chicago State.
After scoring seven goals in the team's first four matches, the Cougars (1-8-1, 0-1-0 OVC) have been held to just two goals over the next six contests, having been shutout in five of the six tilts. Amanda Dean, Savannah DeFini and Alyana Hauser pace the club with two goals apiece. Anna Zichella is the team leader with three assists to tie for first in the OVC.
Defensively, SIUE has yielded 29 goals in 10 matches for the third-most scores surrendered in the league. Sarah Bozeman has spent the most time in net, playing in nine matches and over 790 minutes of action. The O'Fallon, Mo. native has allowed 26 goals to go along with 53 saves.
