COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – No. 11-ranked Vanderbilt's offense showed why it's among the nation's elite on Thursday night as the Commodores scored six unanswered goals to top Tennessee Tech on its home field.
The Golden Eagles fall to 0-3-0 on the season and return to action on Sunday as they take on Murray State.
Tech collected two shots on goal in the game as Tori Soutuyo and Natalie Howard were able to get tries on the net as Vanderbilt (3-0-0) dominated the pace of play, holding 55 percent of the possession time and 73 percent of that in the Golden Eagles' zone. Tech had six total shots in the contest.
However, they were eclipsed by Olivia Stafford on the opposing side, who ended the game with eight shots – six on goal – with two goals in the second half off feeds from Maci Teater.
Teater had her own goal in the 42nd minute on a rocket way outside of the box. Susanna Soderman notched the first goal of the contest in the 27th minute with an assist from Sydney Watts, who scored a pair in the second half within 1:02 of each other. The first was unassisted, while the second got help from Adysen Armenta and Ally Bollig.
Vanderbilt has scored 15 goals in its first three games.
Maggie Conrad was able to shrug off six of the Commodores' 12 shots on goal. Vanderbilt starting keeper Sara Wojdelko went 56:08 minutes without a save to earn the victory, while Alexa Gianoplus finished out the final 33:52 with both saves in the contest on Vandy's stat sheet.
Following the Golden Eagles' contest at Murray State on Sunday, Tech will return home to take on East Tennessee State next Thursday.
