Tech soccer to clash with Chattanooga in Thursday contest in Cookeville
Nearly a third of the way into the 2025 regular season, the Tennessee Tech soccer team will open the month of September with another in-state battle in Cookeville.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Nearly a third of the way into the 2025 regular season, the Tennessee Tech soccer team will open the month of September with another in-state battle in Cookeville. The Golden Eagles will host Chattanooga Thursday evening, with kickoff set for 6 p.m. CT.

A look at Tennessee Tech
The Golden Eagles (0-5-1) welcome the Mocs to town for the fourth-straight Thursday TTU has hosted an in-state opponent at Tech Soccer Field. The purple and gold hosted Lipscomb in the season opener on Aug. 14 before greeting Vanderbilt on Aug. 21 and ETSU on Aug. 28.
Tech will face the Mocs on the heels of a challenging August slate that saw the Golden Eagles go up six opponents with a combined record of 18-11-3 in the season's early stages. TTU is coming off a 3-0 loss at Miami (OH) on Sunday, but managed to check the tie column for the first time this year in the club's last home contest with a 1-1 draw against ETSU.
Ebba Melin found the back of the net in the 23rd minute of the knot with the Bucs for Tech's lone goal this year. A Claire Palya free kick set up Melin for the score to give Palya her first career assist.
Senior keeper Maggie Conrad posted a season-high eight saves in the deadlock and then followed it up with four stops in Sunday's defeat at Miami. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa product is currently second in the OVC with 28 denials.
A look at Chattanooga
Unlike the Golden Eagles, the Mocs (4-1-0) did not play a Sunday contest. Chattanooga was last spotted on the pitch in a 1-0 victory at Austin Peay on Aug. 28 for the club's third-straight win and second-consecutive clean sheet. The Mocs started their run with a 5-3 nod against Indiana State on Aug. 21 before following it up with a 2-0 victory over Morehead State on Aug. 24. The squad's lone loss was a 1-0 defeat at Alabama in their only road match this year.
Paige Thomas leads the team with four goals and eight points this season. The sophomore forward out Green Brook, N.J. was named the SoCon Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 26 after finding the back of the net three times in the wins over Indiana State and Morehead State. Caroline Richvalsky has split the pipes twice this year, while six different Mocs have also scored, including Nicole Solete who had the game-winning goal in the 79th minute in the 1-0 triumph at Austin Peay in the team's last tilt.
Caroline Ekern has spent each and every minute between the pipes for Chattanooga this season. The Knoxville, Tenn. native has allowed only four goals to go along with 15 saves for a 0.80 goals against average and a .789 save percentage.
Chattanooga was picked to finish fifth in the SoCon women's soccer preseason poll.
Inside the series
A series that dates back to 1997, Tech and Chattanooga will square off for the 24th time in the regular season on Thursday. Including exhibition matches played every from 2016-19, the two teams have locked up every year outside of 1996 and the spring season of 2021 since each program's inception in 1996.
The Mocs lead the set 14-6-3. The two squads played to a 1-1 deadlock in last year's meeting in the Scenic City on Sept. 5.
