COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Primed for another season of play on the pitch, the Tennessee Tech soccer team looks toward the start of its fall campaign with the release of the 2025 schedule.
Head coach Corey Boyd and his staff announce an upcoming slate of 19 regular-season matches, one exhibition affair, nine Ohio Valley Conference contests and 10 home tilts for the three-time reigning OVC regular-season champion, Golden Eagles.
The three-month journey is set to get underway with an Aug. 8 exhibition match at Mercer before the purple and gold officially open up the regular season with a home clash against Lipscomb on Aug. 14 in the first of five non-conference affairs versus a team from the Volunteer State.
"I think it's definitely a good schedule in a lot of ways, especially in terms of competition," TTU head coach Corey Boyd claimed. "It should prepare us well for the conference season. If you look at the teams on it, some of them were return games that we needed to make anyway, but also one of the things we focused on was making some of the non-conference trips shorter. There aren't a lot of overnight trips with some easy up and backs mixed in. This can help save us a little bit from the wear and tear of the road and keep us fresh for once OVC play starts."
Tech's season-opening tussle with the Bisons is one of three matches against an NCAA Tournament squad from a year ago. The Golden Eagles will also host Vanderbilt on Aug. 21 in the program's fourth-ever home match with an SEC opponent to go along with a road tangle at Morehead State on Oct. 9 to round out the trio of NCAA tourney participants.
The Cookeville meeting with Vandy will come on the heels of an Aug. 17 match at South Alabama in Tech's first road contest of the season. The Jaguars are coming off a 10-6-3 ledger in 2024 and the tilt will mark the first of five non-conference road affairs. The Golden Eagles will be at former OVC foe Murray State on Aug. 24, Miami (Ohio) on Aug. 31, Kennesaw State on Sept. 7 and Middle Tennessee on Sept. 11.
"The first several games to start the season have the potential to be quite difficult," Boyd said. "Even starting with our exhibition on the road against Mercer who did really did really well last year, so that could be a good test before going into our first game of the regular season against Lipscomb. They have always been a tough team and then we go down to South Alabama for our first road game against a program that has had a lot of recent success with some big years of late.
"Then of course you have Vanderbilt coming to play us at home, which we are certainly excited about," Boyd continued. "Getting an SEC opponent at home is always a fun opportunity. We feel fortunate to be able to play them here and will make the most of that game. Right after that we have our match against Murray State, a former OVC opponent that we have had a lot of great battles with over the years. We haven't seen them in a while, but it's a game we are excited about. Overall, it's just a really good schedule in terms of preparing us for the type of teams we will face once league play opens up."
As far as the home slate is concerned, following the contest with Vanderbilt, the Golden Eagles will host ETSU on Aug. 28, Chattanooga on Sept. 4 and North Alabama on Sept. 14 in the final non-conference match of the year. The tilt with UNA will also serve as Tech's annual Senior Day.
"The thought process of having Senior Day at that point in the season was to not add too much on our plate toward the end of the year," Boyd said. "The last couple of years we have had Senior Day on the last home match of the year which also coincides with our official visits. There is always a lot riding on that match and our players have of course always embraced it and fortunately it has worked out for us, but it felt like a situation where we could take a little bit of stress off ourselves. We celebrate our seniors every day, but it felt like that last non-conference match against North Alabama was the perfect occasion to honor them."
The Golden Eagles will open the OVC campaign at home with a Sept. 21 meeting against Little Rock. The club's first road conference contest is set for Sept. 25 at SIUE. Tech will host Western Illinois on Sept. 28 before hitting the road against for back-to-back affairs at Lindenwood on Oct. 5 and Morehead State on Oct. 9.
The purple and gold will then be able to set its sights on three of the final four matches of the regular season at home. The Golden Eagles will greet UT Martin on Oct. 12 and Southern Indiana on Oct. 16 at Tech Soccer Field, and following a trip to SEMO on Oct. 19, TTU will seal the deal on the regular season with an Oct. 26 get-together with Eastern Illinois in Cookeville.
The OVC Tournament is scheduled to begin with first-round matches on Oct. 30. Second-round action is slated for Nov. 2. The semifinals are set for Nov. 6 and the championship match will take place on Nov. 10.
Tech has hosted the semifinals and championship match in each of the last three seasons for the first three times in program history.
