Tremel Jones Named Semifinalist for William V. Campbell Trophy
Tennessee Tech wide receiver Tremel Jones has been named a Semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, as announced today by the National Football Foundation.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech wide receiver Tremel Jones has been named a Semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, as announced today by the National Football Foundation.
Tremel Jones is an Interdisciplinary Studies major who plans to go into Exercise Science in his postgraduate field of study and was named as one of the team captains before the season. He appears at wide receiver, kick returner, and punt returner for the Golden Eagles.
Jones is a redshirt senior wide receiver from Hamlet, N.C., out of Wingate High School. So far this season, he has posted 66 receiving yards on six receptions and 67 return yards on two kick returns for a total of 189 all-purpose yards through three games.
Last season, Jones was ranked 15th nationally in kickoff return average (26.6) and 36th in combined kick return average yardage (505) among FCS players. He helped the Golden Eagles win a share of the 2024 OVC/Big South Championship.
Jones is heavily involved in the team's community service activities, including work at the Cookeville-Putnam County Animal Shelter, campus cleanup, work at Tech Food Pantry, and reading to local elementary school students.

The 177 semifinalists were nominated by their schools, which are limited to one nominee per school. Candidates must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of eligibility and must have a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale while also displaying outstanding football ability and strong leadership and citizenship. The candidates come from all levels of play in the NCAA and the NAIA. The class is selected each year by the NFF Awards Committee, which is comprised of a nationally recognized group of media, College Football Hall of Famers and athletics administrators.
The National Football Foundation will announce 12-16 finalists on October 22, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments. One of the finalists will be named the winner of the 36th Campbell Trophy during the 67th NFF Annual Awards Dinner Presented by Las Vegas on Dec. 9 and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000.

The finalists will travel to the Bellagio Resort & Casino in Las Vegas for the 67th NFF Annual Awards Dinner Presented by Las Vegas on Dec. 9, where their accomplishments will be highlighted in front of one of the most powerful audiences in all of sports.
