Molly Heady named to Academic All-District Team
Heady becomes the fourth TTU women’s basketball player to receive the honor
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tennessee Tech sophomore Molly Heady has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District First Team for her efforts both on the court and in the classroom.
The Capital One Academic All-District Teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). District 3 for Division I consists of all schools in Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia. Heady was the only women's basketball player in the Ohio Valley Conference to be selected to any of the eight district lists.
A nursing major out of Monterey, Tenn., Heady has maintained a 4.0 GPA and has been named to the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll and to the TTU Athletic Director’s Honor Roll in each semester she has been at Tech.
Heady is one of two players in District 3 to have a 4.0 GPA and just one of eight players in NCAA Division I.
Heady is the 108th Tech selection since 1982 for the Academic All-District award and the 10th for women’s basketball. Heady is the fourth women’s basketball player at Tech to receive the honor joining Janet Holt (2000, 2001, 2002), Diane Seng (1998, 1999, 2000), Colin Carmichael (1999, 2000) and Jerilynn Harper (1982).
Joining Heady on the District 3 Team include Tennessee’s Glory Johnson and Taber Spani, NC State’s Kordy Burke and Marissa Kastanek, Old Dominion’s Mairi Buchan and Duke’s Allsion Vernerey.
Heady has helped the Golden Eagles to 10 victories this, including six in OVC play. She is currently third on the team in scoring and rebounds averaging 8.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
The Golden Eagles are back in action Saturday as they travel to Jacksonville State for a 2 p.m. tipoff.
