LEXINGTON, Ky. – Tennessee Tech senior Madolyn Isringhausen added another big chapter to a season tale that has become one of the best stories in program history Tuesday, becoming the first player in Golden Eagle volleyball history to earn American Volleyball Coaches Association/GameChanger Division I National Player of the Week accolades.
Less than 24 hours after picking up her sixth Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week nod, the outside hitter collected the first national recognition of her career and by a Tech volleyball player in school history.
Isringhausen turned in arguably the best weekend of her career while helping Tech to a pair of victories over SIUE, averaging an absurd 6.71 kills per set while hitting a robust .435 with just seven attack errors on 92 attempts. She also piled up 1.14 blocks and 7.57 points per set. In Friday's 3-0 sweep of the Cougars, the senior smashed .432 with 19 terminations and 3.0 blocks for 20.5 points overall.
The Edwardsville, Ill. native delivered her best showing yet in the purple and gold on Senior Day on Saturday, erupting for a career-high 28 kills (tying for the second-most in a four-set match in the rally-scoring era in Tech history) while hitting .436. She chipped in two service aces and a season-high five blocks, totaling 32.5 points in the four-set win.
In Saturday's tilt, Isringhausen became just the 11th member of Tech's Double Grand Club, recording the 1,000th dig of her storied career. It marked just one of numerous milestones for the Golden Eagle star, who has climbed the program's career rankings and littered her name throughout the record books.
With four matches still remaining in the regular season, plus at least one postseason contest guaranteed with Tech's bid to the OVC Tournament officially clinched on Saturday, the senior is on pace to break a number of single-season marks. One of just four Golden Eagles ever with a triple-double under her belt, Isringhausen stands to set new club standards for kills, kills per set, service aces per set, and points per set for a single season.
The five-year veteran currently ranks second in program history with 4,395 attacks, third with 1,626 kills, third with 1,894.0 points, third with 152 service aces, third with 0.33 service aces per set, fifth with 4.15 points per set, and fifth with 3.57 kills per set. Among the national leaders in Division I volleyball this season, Isringhausen charts fifth in total kills, fifth in total points, seventh in kills per set, and eighth in points per set.
The Golden Eagles host their final two matches in the Hooper Eblen Center of the year this week, playing host to Southern Indiana next Thursday and Friday. The two will square off in a 3:30 p.m. CT affair on Thursday, Nov. 14 and close the weekend with a 6:00 p.m. battle on Friday, Nov. 15.
