Tech soccer heads into critical weekend with final two OVC games on the road
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Tech soccer team heads into
the final weekend of Ohio Valley Conference play with a chance to
win the regular-season conference championship. There is also a
chance the Golden Eagles could miss the OVC tournament completely.
That is how close the conference has been all season long.
Tech travels to UT Martin on Friday, Oct. 24. The Golden Eagles and
Skyhawks are currently tied at fourth place in the OVC standings,
holding 3-2-1 OVC records with two game remaining each.
On Sunday Tech takes on Murray State, who is currently on sole
possession of first-place in the OVC standings. However, if Tech
gets a win Friday, and Murray State either losses or ties against
Austin Peay on Friday, then a win over MSU Sunday would give Tech
the regular season OVC crown.
"The pieces have been coming together all season long, and this is
a great time for everything to be coming together," assistant coach
Chris Walker said.
The top six teams in the final OVC standings will make the
conference tournament. The No. 1 and 2 seeds will get a first-round
bye, while the 3 and 4 seeds will host No.'s 5 and 6. The final
four teams will travel to the regular season champion for the
semi-finals and finals on Nov. 7 and 9.
Tech wraps up its regular season on Oct. 29 with a non-conference
home game against Lipscomb, at Tech Soccer Field.
