Karlen, Powell earn OVC weekly honors
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – After a strong weekend of play at the Stacheville Challenge in Clarksville, Tennessee Tech Volleyball took home a share of the spoils on Monday as Bella Powell was named the Ohio Valley Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week and Jordan Karlen the Setter of the Week.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – After a strong weekend of play at the Stacheville Challenge in Clarksville, Tennessee Tech Volleyball took home a share of the spoils on Monday as Bella Powell was named the Ohio Valley Conference's Defensive Player of the Week and Jordan Karlen the Setter of the Week.
Powell, a graduate outside hitter from Palmyra, Ill., had a strong offensive weekend, but her defensive numbers helped lead the Golden Eagles to a 2-1 record on the opening week. She finished with 10 blocks – an average of 0.91 per set – while also accumulating 25 digs (2.3 per set) and 50 successful receptions off the serve. Powell also had 33 kills and 40 total points on the weekend.
Karlen, a senior from Janesville, Wis., had 112 assists for the three matches – an impressive 10.18 assists per set average. She had a season-high 49 assists in the five-set victory over Austin Peay, while collecting 39 – 13.0 per set – in the sweep over Murray State. Karlen also posted 27 digs, three blocks and four kills in the series.
The Golden Eagles (2-1) return to action on Friday as they take on North Alabama at 10 a.m. and tournament host UAB at 7 p.m. Tech will close out the event Saturday with a noon contest against USC Upstate.
