Personal records fall on day one at Nofsinger Invitational

First meet of indoor season continues Saturday
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech track and field athletes were in action for the first time in the 2012 season on Friday at the Niswonger Invitational at East Tennessee State, and several individual career records fell.
Senior Traci Jones was the only Golden Eagle to compete in an invitational event, placing 19th in the 800 meter with a time of 2:27.42 while sophomore Dalis Connell and junior Lacy Yslas both set new personal indoor bests.
Connell, of Chattanooga, ran the 400 meter prelim in 1:03.45, breaking her previous indoor record of 1:06.87 and coming within two seconds of her all-time record of 1:01.98 set at the OVC Outdoor Championships in 2011.
Yslas, of Sparta, Tenn., threw 36 feet, 4.75 inches in the shot put, setting a new personal indoor record, breaking her previous mark of 35 feet, 2.5 inches set in 2010. Yslas saw her first action since the 2010 season at the Nofsinger – she sat out the 2011 year.
Golden Eagle freshmen Brooklyn Kimball and Harley Roach saw their first collegiate action on Friday as Kimball competed in the 60 meter dash, recording a time of 8.19 seconds, and the 200 meter, with a time of 27.43 seconds. Roach threw 35 feet, 4.5 inches in the shot put.
The Golden Eagles will return to action at the Nofsinger Invitational on Saturday. Results will be posted on TTUSports.com at the meet’s conclusion.
