Its good to be gold; Tech strikes against Georgia Southern in Birmingham
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Kris Cambron earned her second consecutive scoring game on Friday as she netted one on Georgia Southern for her second goal of the season to kickstart Tech in their 2-0 victory over the Eagles.
True to form, the Golden Eagles struck in the second half of the contest, pacing Georgia Southern in the first half of the game, getting off eight shots to the Eagles seven. However Cambron, the returning sophomore and Ohio Valley Conference Co-Freshman of the Year from 2009, found the back of the net on a long shot into the upper right corner in the 59th minute of the game on a pass from senior Brooke Mayo.
Both teams finished the contest with 13 shots as 10 Golden Eagle players contributed kicks on the day.
Once again, freshman keeper Becca Toler went the distance for Tech, notching four saves in her 90 minutes of play. Georgia Southern goalie Katie Merson logged five saves.
Friday's win marks an evening of the series score between TTU and Georgia Southern, as each team has earned one win between the two meetings.
Tech will head into Sunday's matchup against Samford with an improved record of 2-4, while Georgia Southern falls to a 2-3 record on the season.
The Golden Eagles will meet the Bulldogs after one day of rest, when they take the field Sunday at 2 p.m. for a showdown with the tournament host team.
