Tech women wrap up fall season with sixth place at Troy tournament
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Megan Bradford and Ashley Spangler finished
in a tie for 13th place individually, leading the Tennessee Tech
women's golf team to sixth place among the 13 teams competing at
the Troy Invitational at Montgomery's Arrowhead Country Club,
Bradford cut two strokes off her score between the first and second rounds, following Monday's 79 with a team-best 77 Tuesday for a 156 total. Spangler was steady, scoring 78 on both of her tours of the 5,916-yard, par 72 layout, to equal Bradford and finish in a six-way tie for 13th place.
Jacksonville State (607) held on to capture the team championship32) by seven shot over South Alabama (614), with host Troy University third (617). Nichols State (628) was fourth, while Houston Baptist (632) edged Tech by two shots for fifth place.
The Golden Eagles, playing their final round of the fall season under first-year coach Brandy Stout, shot a 319 Tuesday after posting a 315 total Monday, finishing at 634. That was two shots better than Eastern Kentucky, the only other Ohio Valley Conference school in the tournament.
Carley Rhyne was next for the Golden Eagles, shooting rounds of 81 and 80 to place in a tie for 32nd place at 161. Also at 161, Madison Denman shot an 84 Tuesday after leading Tech Monday with a 77. Diana Carson rounded out Tech's lineup, finishing in a tie for 48th place after carding scores of 82 and 85 for a 167 total.
Sofia Joensson of Nichols State was the tourney medalist, shooting 73-74--147 to win by two strokes.
