Golden Eagles wrap up 12th place at EKU Spring Invitational; OVC next

RICHMOND, Ky. -- Junior Megan Bradford finished up the EKU Spring Invitational with a round of 77 Sunday, pushing her to the top of the scorecard for Tennessee Tech by one stroke as the Golden Eagles finished 12th in the 18-team, 54-hole tournament.

The tournament was hosted by Eastern Kentucky at the Arlington Golf Course in Richmond, which will be the site of Tech's next action. The Golden Eagles have two weeks to prepare for their return for the 2009 Ohio Valley Conference championship.

Ashley Spangler was one shot behind Bradford
After shooting identical rounds of 80 on Saturday, Bradford wrapped up the tourney with a 77 to give her a 54-hole total of 237 and place her in a tie for 27th to top coach Brandy Stout's team. Senior Ashley Spangler was one shot back, carding scores of 81-74-83 to finish in a tie for 30th place at 238.

Next for Tech, senior Madison Denman played to a 245 total with scores of 79-82-84, and placed in a tie for 57th. Rounding out Tech's lineup, seniors Maegan Sullivan and Carla Hazelwood were tied for 83rd place. Sullivan shot 85-82-89 for her 256 total, while Hazelwood shot 85-86-85 to finish with the same total.

Also in the field for Tech as an individual entry, sophomore Heather Houser placed in a tie for 94th with rounds of 92-86-83 and a 262 total.

The University of Toledo made up 15 strokes in the final round to grab the team crown, finishing with a 306-311-295--912 total. The Rockets topped Central Arkansas (919) by seven shots for the title, with Eastern Michigan (923) third, Richmond (933) fourth and Murray State (942) in fifth place.

The field of 18 teams included six Ohio Valley Conference teams, paced by Murray State's top five finish. Morehead State's first-year women's team placed eighth (948), Austin Peay (962) was 11th, Tech (972) placed 12th, Eastern Kentucky (973) was 13th and SIU Edwardsville (1000) was 16th.
