Women's golf team in 12th place at EKU Spring Invitational
RICHMOND, Ky. -- Senior Ashley Spangler carded the team's best
round of the day, shooting a 74 on her second tour of the par 72,
5,817-yard Arlington Golf Course, as the Tennessee Tech women's
golf team finished the first 36 holes of the EKU Spring
Invitational in 12th place among 18 teams.
Spangler is in 16th place among the field of more than 100 golfers,
with the final 18 holes scheduled for Easter Sunday at the same
course that will host the Ohio Valley Conference Championships in
two weeks.
In 11th place after the first round, the Golden Eagles slipped one
spot in the standings despite improving by seven strokes from the
first round. After shooting a 325 in the first 18 holes, Tech
improved to 318 to finish the day at 643.
Austin Peay, one of six OVC teams in the field, shot a second round
311 to sneak ahead of the Golden Eagles by two strokes. Central
Arkansas (609) holds the team lead by four strokes over Eastern
Michigan (613), followed by Toledo (617), Richmond (622) and Murray
State (624) in the Top five.
The next five includes Morehead State (629), Houston Baptist (632),
Akron (635), Ohio (636) and Western Kentucky (638). Austin Peay
(641) is 11th, followed by Tennessee Tech (643), Eastern Kentucky
(647), Southern Illinois (660), SIU Edwardsville (665), Bowling
Green State (669), Dayton (674) and Evansville (674).
Following her 81 in the first round, Spangler improved to a 74 in
the second round and is in 16th place individually. Megan Bradford,
the lone junior in the Tech lineup, was consistent Saturday
shooting 80 in each round for a 160 to place her in a tie for 37th
place. Just one shot back is senior Madison Denman, tied for 45th
place after recording rounds of 79 and 82.
Senior Maegan Sullivan (85-82) is tied for 70th place at 167, while
senior Carla Hazelwood (85-86) is tied for 84th place at 171.
Also in the tournament, sophomore Heather Houser is competing
individually and shot rounds of 92 and 86 to place her 99th.
The final round is slated to tee off Sunday at 8 a.m. EDT.
