COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech women's basketball announced Monday the signing of Cam Mathews, a 5-foot-7 guard transfer from the University of Tulsa. A native of Keller, Texas, Mathews brings a high-level veteran experience, leadership, energy, and depth to the Golden Eagles' backcourt as the program looks to build on its championship momentum from this past season.
"Cam is a such a great fit on and off the court," said head coach Kim Rosamond. "She plays with tremendous energy, defends with intensity, and makes plays on both ends of the floor. Her experience, versatility and competitive mindset will bring immediate value, and her high basketball IQ will be a great asset to our team. More than that, she prioritizes winning, and she plays the game the right way. We are excited about the toughness and leadership she will add to our locker room."
During her two seasons at Tulsa, Mathews appeared in 41 games, starting in two. Despite an injury that sidelined her for part of the 2023–24 season, she returned to contribute to Tulsa's postseason run in the Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT), where the team secured a first-round victory over Arkansas. Mathews also contributed to the Golden Hurricane's impressive postseason run during the 2023–24 season. Tulsa advanced to the quarterfinals of the inaugural Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT). The team secured a dominant 80–62 victory over Arkansas in the first round, followed by a 73–61 win against Georgetown in the second round, before falling to Illinois in the quarterfinals.
In the 2024–25 season, Tulsa earned an at-large bid to the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). The Golden Hurricane faced Lindenwood in the first round, continuing their streak of postseason appearances.
Mathews' high school career at Keller High School was marked by outstanding achievements. As a senior, she averaged 17.1 points, 4.7 assists, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.9 steals per game, while shooting an impressive 86.5% from the free-throw line. Her accolades include being named the Fort Worth Star-Telegram Player of the Year, District MVP, and earning spots on the TABC 6A All-Region and TGCA 6A All-State teams.
"I chose Tennessee Tech because it felt like home the moment I stepped on campus," said Mathews. "The culture here is built on championship basketball, and the coaching staff truly feels like family. I knew this was the place where I could grow as a player and a person."
Her postseason experience and relentless playing style will be key assets as Tennessee Tech looks to defend their 2024-25 regular season and OVC tournament titles.
"Cam checks every box for us — she's tough, talented, and puts the team first," Rosamond added. "We can't wait to see the impact she'll make on and off the court."
With Mathews joining a talented group of returners and newcomers, the Golden Eagles are poised for another exciting run as they build on a historic 26–6 season, the program's 12th NCAA Tournament appearance and one of the most successful campaigns in school history.
