Tech football adds Hall of Famer Anderson as volunteer assistant
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech football team will get a little bit of help from one of their own as the Golden Eagles welcome Wayne Anderson as a volunteer assistant, working with Tech’s kicking game. Anderson, in his time with the Golden Eagles, was one of the top kickers in the Ohio Valley Conference between 1977 and 1980, earning three all-OVC honors and an All-America selection in 1980 from the American Football Coaches Association.

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech football team will get a little bit of help from one of their own as the Golden Eagles welcome Wayne Anderson as a volunteer assistant, working with Tech's kicking game.
Anderson, in his time with the Golden Eagles, was one of the top kickers in the Ohio Valley Conference between 1977 and 1980, earning three all-OVC honors and an All-America selection in 1980 from the American Football Coaches Association.
He led Tech in scoring all four seasons and compiled 180 total points. He was third all-time in scoring when his career finished and still stands tied for 10th now.
One of his biggest accomplishments came in the 1980 campaign as he hit 11 consecutive field goals without a miss, holding what was then a Football Championship Subdivision record. That season, he also held two OVC records in points scored kicking in a single game (14) and most field goals in a game (4).
In his career, Anderson hit 93.5 (87-for-93) of his PATs and was 31-for-42 on field goals (73.8 percent), holding FCS records at the time in the highest percentage of field goals made over 40 yards in a single season and career, as well as most successful field goal tries in a season.
Following his Tech career, Anderson spent time in the National Football League with the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs.
He came back to Tech in 1983 to complete his degree in health education.
Anderson has been a visible face over the years, returning to help with kickers at Tech and on the prep level. He was inducted into the Tennessee Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 1997. Most recently, he served as the sidelines reporter for Tech football broadcasts on WCTE and ESPN+.
