NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Players and coaches from the Tennessee Tech
softball and football teams were at the state capital Monday as
each squad received special recognition via proclamations by the
House of Representatives and Senate. State Representative Ryan
Williams and Senator Charlotte Burks sponsored the two
proclamations, which were read to each body in the Monday afternoon
session with the team members in attendance.
Coach Watson Brown's football team was honored for winning the
Ohio Vallay Conference championship for the first time since 1975
and advancing to the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision
Playoffs for the first time in school history. Most of the team's
seniors were on hand for the recognitions.
Coach Tory Acheson and seven of his players were in attendance as
the team was recognized for winning the "national championship" in
academics in 2011 with the highest combined team GPA among all NCAA
Division I programs.
Joining the student-athletes and coaches were Tennessee Tech
President Dr. Bob Bell and First Lady Gloria Bell, along with
Director of Athletics Mark Wilson.
