COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Golden Eagles (6-16, 4-7 OVC) will look to continue their recent road success as they take part in their last 2010 regular season road trip. Tech will take on a trio of conference opponents including Tennessee State, Austin Peay and Jacksonville State.
"It might be good for us to get back on the road and get out of our routine," head coach John Blair said. "Going on the road should help us refocus for the last three weeks of the season.
Tennessee Tech begins its road trip Friday as it takes on the Tennessee State Tigers at 7 p.m. In their previous meeting this season, the Golden Eagles brought their winning streak against the Tigers to five as they earned the sweep in three sets that were all decided by three points or less. TSU currently sits eighth in the conference with a 3-8 OVC record and a 5-14 overall record.
"TSU is so athletic and they play a very inspired game at home," Blair said. "They are well coached and will be looking to try to get back into the playoff race."
The Golden Eagles then travel to Clarksville to take on the Austin Peay Lady Governors Saturday at 2 p.m. Earlier this season the Lady Govs defeated the Golden Eagles in three sets, with one of the sets decided in extra points. APSU sits second in the OVC with a 9-3 conference record and an 18-5 overall record.
"Austin Peay has been a solid team all season," Blair said. "They still have their sights set on first place so they will do everything they can to catch Morehead State."
Tech wraps up its road schedule Tuesday with a 7 p.m. contest against the Gamecocks of Jacksonville State. The Golden Eagles ended a two-match skid with JSU earlier this season as they earned a 3-1 win at Eblen Center. Jacksonville State owns an overall record of 12-10 and ranks fourth in the OVC with a 7-4 conference record.
"Jacksonville State is always a tough team at home," Blair stated. "With our win over them a couple of weeks ago, they will be ready to go and it will make the match that much tougher."
"All three matches will be tough and everyone has a chance to win," Blair continued. Hopefully we can get a couple of wins on this road trip to give us some momentum for the final two weeks of the season at home."
