Golden Eagles trip Colonels in OVC action, 3-1

RICHMOND, Ky. - Heading into the match, the Tennessee Tech volleyball team looked poised to remain right behind Morehead State in the tight race atop the OVC standing. And they did just that with a 3-1 win over the host Colonels with a service ace from senior Kappy Lang to clinch the match.

Both Lang and sophomore Leah Meffert recorded their fourth straight double-double. Lang had 50 assists and 17 digs while Meffert collected the match high 17 kills and 12 digs.
"They played well tonight," said head Coach John Blair. "We played like we needed to those last few points."

Consecutive kills by Meffert and sophomore Marie Peddicord as well as the set clinching smash by senior Jessica Asplund got the Golden Eagles out to the right start by claiming the first set, 25-17.

Set two saw the Colonels bounce back and tie the match up at one set apiece before the Golden Eagles came back and did not allow the Colonels to claim another set.

While set three saw Tech claim another 25-17 set win, it was set four that gave the Golden Eagles the biggest scare of the night. The Colonels were just one point away from evening the match for the second time in the evening when they were ahead 24-22. But Tech battled back with a kill from Apslund while Meffert hit for two straight kills.

Lang then serviced up her second ace of the night to give Tech the set four win.

Three Golden Eagles hit double digit kills. Meffert led the way with her 17 and senior Caitlin Bullock was right behind her with 16. Peddicord chimed in with 10 of her own to go along with her four assists.

Junior Katie Kenline led the defense for Tech with 27 digs in just the four sets.

Tech (8-8, 5-1 OVC) remains on the road Saturday when they visit Morehead State with match time slated for 1 p.m.
